Major UK retailer Shops at Caljan Rite-Hite
One of the UK's most successful retailers has installed four Caljan Rite-Hite telescopic boom conveyors in its 350,000 square foot facility in North Yorkshire. Used to unload sea containers, the conveyors move goods safely into the building for palletising, reducing manual handling. They are height adjustable and extend 12.3 metres to reach the rear of the sea containers, allowing workers to unload cargo comfortably.
The retailer sells a wide range of goods through a network of UK stores, including fresh food, clothes and petrol. It built the import centre in the North to improve distribution and reduce transport costs by minimising road use.
The four Caljan Rite-Hite BeltTrack conveyors traverse between multiple bays on surface mounted tracks, providing flexibility while maintaining cost efficiency. They perform reliably and effectively, despite their rigorous daily workload. The belts are 600mm wide to accommodate large or awkwardly shaped parcels. Metal plates cover the undersides and protect employees from the mechanism. This is unique to BeltTrack and means the conveyors comply with EN619 2002, a European safety standard.
At the North Yorkshire facility, the retailer moves goods from the sea containers to a warehouse for palletising, and stores them in a narrow aisle racking system, ready for distribution. The conveyors allow workers to unload containers rapidly and in quick succession, making this process highly efficient and enabling the company to get deliveries to its stores on time. Caljan Rite-Hite completed the installation in just a few days, minimising disruption to work areas.
